About Us
Our Mission
Welcome to St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Our mission is to Glorify God, grow in Christ, and share God's love and forgiveness. As a church in the Lutheran tradition, we care deeply about connecting people to Jesus Christ, each other and God's mission in the world.
We Are A Christ-Centered Church Our whole life as a church comes from the living Christ and focuses on Jesus, his message and his mission.
We Are A Family Priesthood All of us (not just the pastors) are called as God's people to participate in and enjoy God's work of reconciliation in the world.
We Are An Ecumenical Church We celebrate our Lutheran identity, and we also recognize and work with other Christian churches and ministries near and far.
We Are Missional People St. Peter's is a mission outpost, a sending place from which to live out and share the life of Christ in a world so loved by God.
Who and What We Believe
The Bible The Bible, as a whole and in all its parts, is the divinely inspired, revealed and inerrant Word of God and is the only infallible authority in all matters of faith and life.
God God is the Maker and Ruler of the universe. He is personal, yet infinite and perfect. He exists eternally and equally as one God, three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God, at the core of his existence, is love.
Jesus Christ Jesus Christ is both true God and true Man, the only Son of God and the only Savior of the world. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself for the sins of all by dying on the cross. He arose from the dead after three days, demonstrating His power over sin and death.
Salvation Salvation comes to us entirely as a gift, received through faith (trust) in Jesus Christ. We call this gift 'grace.' We can never make up for our sin by self improvement or good works. It is through faith alone, apart from works of the law that we find ourselves in a right standing before God, forgiven of our sins, and promised eternal life with Him.
About the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is present in the world to make people aware of their sin, works to call humanity into a saving faith in Jesus Christ, empowers believers to live more fully according to God's purpose, bestows gifts for the ministry of the Church, inspires love for one another, and works to bring glory to Jesus Christ.
The Church The Church is the living body of Christ in the world. It is the gathering of saints worldwide in which the Gospel is rightly taught and the Sacraments are rightly administered.
Being Lutheran As Lutherans, we care deeply about connecting people with God's good news, the Gospel. The central message of scripture is grace (God's unearned love), expressed in the doctrine of being made right with God by faith alone, apart from works. We follow the Lutheran confessions of faith known as the Book of Concord, because they are the true interpretation of the Bible's message.
Pastor Dapelo joined the pastoral staff at St. Peter's as an Associate Pastor in August of 2015. He received his Master of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and has served churches in Ohio, Illinois, and Iowa.
Our History
Shortly after World War I a group of German Lutheran colonists from Russia settled in the Elk Grove area. There was not a Lutheran church within 25 miles and these people felt the need for a church of their own faith for themselves and their families. On May 17, 1923, St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church was incorporated.
The first church building was at the corner of Elk Grove-Florin Rd and Elk Grove Blvd where the Shell station currently stands. In 1956 the church building was moved down the road. As the church grew, buildings were added and expanded. In 1987 the congregation moved to the current site at 8701 Elk Grove-Florin Road.
In 1993 the mission of the church was expanded to include St. Peter's Lutheran School. In its 22nd year, the school daily fulfills its mission statement of "Christian Nurture, Mission Outreach and Quality Academic and Religious Education."
From a beginning of five families, St. Peter's has increased over the past ninety years to over 600 families - 1,083 baptized and 876 confirmed members. Three new churches have been planted over the years and countless numbers have heard the message of the gospel through Sunday worship, children and adult classes, youth gatherings, and small group Bible studies. Since 1999 over 60 members have shared their faith in countries around the world through short term mission trips and in the last 16 years 10 young men from St. Peter's have been raised up as pastors in the Lutheran church to continue the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
St. Peter's Lutheran Church has been exceedingly blessed over the past 99 years and we continue to seek to share those blessings with our community, our nation and our world.
St. Peter's Lutheran School exists to glorify God through Christian Nurture, Mission Outreach, Quality Academics and Religions Education. St. Peter's Lutheran Church, a member of the American Association of Lutheran Churches, had a vision for mission outreach and in August 1993, St. Peter's Lutheran School opened with preschool through fourth grade. The school is owned and operated by St. Peter's Lutheran Church. A grade was added each year and by September 1997 the school was complete as planned, with preschool through eighth grade. The school is considered part of the mission outreach of the church. The school is governed by an elected school board made up of nine members elected for three year terms. The board members are elected by the congregation at its annual meeting. It is the job of the school board to develop policies and procedures for the school in line with the mission and policies of the church. All policies are approved by the church council. The school is a member of and accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
